In the modern era, classic rock bands are few and far between, and ones who do it to perfection are even more sparse, but for Sunderland band Thieves of Liberty, rock ‘n’ roll excellence flows naturally.
After a hectic summer of gigs spanning all across the UK, it only feels right that the Thieves end their year with a chart-topping album, and that is exactly what they did.
Shangri-La, released in mid-November, has already struck a chord–and maybe a riff or two as well–with thousands of listeners, managing to secure them a Top-10 spot in the UK Rock Charts alongside seasoned rock veteransLinkin Park and Black Sabbath!
“It was a case of ripping up the rule book really”, say Thieves when asked about the challenges of creating a modern-day rock album. “It was a really fresh writing process, every song is a bit different”.
The devilish debut’s intensity and fluidity spill into every corner of the rock genre, creating a complete listening experience, and further expanding their already well-established platform.
Opening and title track Shangri-La instantly captivates with a windows-down, air guitar opening riff, immediately creating a flawless depiction of who Thieves of Liberty are for someone who may not have listened before.
“We felt an album was the way to progress, and we had all the ammunition there, we just had to put it together”
Thieves of Liberty already have a promising 2025 in store, kicking off with a UK-wide tour across 15 dates, including: London, Edinburgh and Bristol. With ideas of a second album on the horizon, maybe we’ll have some new headbanging rock anthems added to the tour setlist.
Catch Thieves of Liberty back in the North East at Trillians in March next year and check out their album Shangri-La on all streaming platforms.
