Just to be absolutely upfront – my daughter sings and plays guitar in Trivia – so I may be slightly biased as well as being a proud dad.
Trivia
Two young 13 year old girls making loud noisy melodic punk rock. Songs like Cindy and Schizophrenia showcase an infectious song writing ability that a pair of 13 year olds shouldn’t have yet. Hell, they shouldn’t really be playing to a packed out Ivy House at their age but they are with a fearlessness and swagger born from youth. They must be doing something right judging by the reception they get from the Serial Bowl Record crowd. The future of music is in safe hands.
Tear Jerker
Sunderland’s own Tearjerker are a band that truly understands the heart of melodic punk rock, delivering a sound that’s both familiar and refreshingly vital. Their music feels raw and angry but always with a strong melodic undertone. There is a cohesive, energetic punch eminating from the stage is hard to ignore. The boys are on form tonight and clearly enjoying themselves. The banter coming from the stage has the audience on the floor laughing. Nobody does what TearJerker do better than what Tear Jerker do.
Clay Face
Manchester’s Clayface offer a raw and energetic take on melodic punk rock, drawing clear inspiration from the 90s punk scene. Clayface delivers a punchy, no-frills brand of punk that hits you in the gut with jagged driving guitar and a wall of raw edgy guitar. Possibly one of the loudest most intense live sets that I have witnessed in my 46 years of life.
