SINGLE REVIEW: Camel Island – AmEx

Reviews

Usually when a band has a lineup change that results in being downsized, it’s hard to comeback with music that is equally as dynamic and hard hitting, however for Camel Island, the opposite seems to be true. After a brief period of silence late last year, the Camels returned in 2025 with a chain of singles leading up to announcement of their debut EP ‘Promises’.

March saw the release of the bands first single as three piece, ’Little Heart’ and was shortly followed by ‘Rewind’. My impression of the singles had led me to believe that the new era of Camel Island was heavily inspired by a Richard Ashcroft style of Britpop that consisted of simple, yet effective riffs and catchy choruses, yet ‘AmEx’ sonically suggests that the EP has a lot more to offer.

Although ‘AmEx’ doesnt totally differ from the sound they explored earlier on in the year, it follows the blueprint of what I would consider quintisentially Camel Island. Reminiscent of their earlier work, the song is energetic from start to finish with the opening riff immediately setting the pace for the rest of the song. It’s bouncy, tumultuous and could easily be an indie disco floorfiller.

Camel Island are set to release their debut EP ‘Promises’ on the 12th of December this year – if the rest of the EP is anything like its lead single, 2026 is set to be a great year for these lads.
