SINGLE REVIEW – why would I lie? – spacecadetbloom

By Peter Doherty

The debut single from the North East’s sublime Shoegazers spacecadetbloom takes the dissonant and ever-so-dreamy form of “Why Would I Lie?”. spacecadetbloom – consisting of Scarlett, Will, Matty and Harry – sail a sea of distortion on their first outing as swells of reverb-strewn guitar take over the meandering atmospherics that start the track.

Speaking on the track, spacecadetbloom had this to say:

“”why would I lie?” is a showcase of the wide range of influences in the band where soft and dreamy verses build into choruses packed with layers of fuzz and powerful drumming. The song is brought together by emotive and relatable lyrics and soaring vocals.

This song was one of the later songs we wrote as a band and we immediately knew it was going to be our first single. We recorded it with Josh Ingledew from blank studios who executed the track perfectly!!

The song is open to interpretation lyrically but shows themes of frustration and anger throughout. It’s very special to us and we’re grateful to have someone like Josh in our area who can listen to us and almost envision what we’re thinking!”

As former members of Calvoas, Scarlett and Will have indefinitely hung up their Indie boots for more noisy pastures. For me, spacecadetbloom offers up far more avenues for sonic exploration.

Big things are yet to come.
