BUG OUT: Indie rockers The Bug Club prepare to take to the Pop Recs stage.

Uncategorized

Get ready for Welsh indie rockers The Bug Club to get your toes tapping with their tongue-in-cheek, blues oriented, Sub-Pop sound. If you’ve not heard of them yet, you will, as early champions such as Radio 6’s Mark Riley and their energetic live performances have put them on course for a mega 2025. And what better start to that than a performance at our city’s beloved alternative institution, Pop Recs, where the pints are ‘Quality’ and the PA is 5x louder than the room really requires.

The infectious Bug Club sound could be described as like an illegitimate love child of The Buzzcocks and Dr. Feelgood, with simple, yet well crafted songs that are infused with the frantic energy of spunk filled youth. The kind of band that will make you question your life choices whilst you mosh around like an overly caffeinated polecat, dreaming of a future of traveling the world destroying stages – even though you’ve never picked up a guitar. A little bit punk rock, a little bit blues but 100% here and now, these guys could sing the phone book and have you mouthing the words along.

Support comes from Getdown Services, a lo-fi rock duo driven by hip swaying guitar chugs and modern post-ironic lyrics your dad doesn’t understand. Think Eagles of Death Metal meets Sleaford Mods at a disco. I’ve had their single Dog Dribble on repeat since I discovered them. A perfect yin to the headliner’s yang.

Thursday 20th February at Pop Recs, High Street West. Tickets available via Musicglue.
