Indie icons The Wombats are making their return to the North East with their biggest outdoor show in the North-East yet, and we’re so ready for it.
The three-piece will be performing a mid-summer show at Newcastle Times Square on Friday July 24th with a stacked supporting lineup of well known and rising bands. These summer shows have been taking place in the open-air space in the centre of the city for the past decade, with artists such as Scouting For Girls, The Enemy, and Manic Street Preachers having played in previous years.
Since gaining prominence in the 2000’s with their debut album ‘A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation’, featuring hits such as ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’, and ‘Moving to New York’, the band have never gone more than four years without an album release, and have kept momentum steady with a string of hits, leading ‘Greek Tragedy’, a track from their 2015 album ‘Glitterbug’ to go viral across social media multiple times over the past few years, which inspired trends, covers, and even choreographed line dance routines to the song.

It hasn’t been long since the indie heavyweights have graced North East stages, having headlined the Utilita Arena in Newcastle this past December as part of their ‘Oh! The Ocean’ album tour, where they were joined by rising Scottish four-piece The Snuts.
Three support acts have been confirmed for the Times Square performance, and any indie fan will be pleased to catch Cherryholt, Brògeal, and Red Rum Club alongside The Wombats.
Since releasing their 2022 album ‘Fix Yourself, Not The World’, which reached Number One, they have toured arenas and festivals, not only in the UK, but worldwide, cementing their place in the hearts of fans everywhere, as well as becoming one of the most prominent indie bands of the past two decades.
The show is being organised by Liift Live, and the promoters behind the event are undeniably looking forward to it, describing it as “an unmissable night of live music right in the heart of Newcastle. Roll on the summer!”

Tickets for the show are on sale now and can be found here. (£45.50 + £5.62 booking fee)
