There’s still a long way to go, however, and the urgency has never been greater as The Bunker struggles through the unkind winter elements. Keen to not lose momentum, there are several upcoming fundraising events lined up to help nudge The Bunker over the halfway point this side of Christmas:
Red London – Sat 21 December @ The Bunker
POSTER
Sunderland punk legends Red London deck the halls with Docs and Harringtons (Fa la la la la). A special fundraising show, all proceeds will go to the roof fund.
Red London are heritage supporters of The Bunker, still utilising the space for rehearsals and studio engineering. The local group was formed in 1981, fronted by conversational poet Patty Smith. As old as The Bunker and perhaps just as decrepit, these lads can still punch it, as evidenced by their excellent 2024 album, Back on the Streets, and festival appearances across Europe.
Stockton Road Hit Squad – Mon 23 December @ The Ship Isis
POSTER
Sunderland’s ephemeral fundraising troupe is back again for a bumper show just two days before Santy comes. The Hit Squad’s fourth Bunker fundraiser show this year takes place at The Ship Isis. This will no doubt be a cosy catastrophe of a night, with subsequent hangovers felt throughout the festive period.
In their most ambitious lineup so far, Sunderland artists team up for a full day of pop and rock classics, including: Oasis, Chappell Roan, System of a Down, David Bowie, The Cure, Franz Ferdinand, Wham and The Doors, with more to be announced.
Of course, if you want to play your part in the fundraising effort, don’t wait around! Visit https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/thebunkercic check out the reward tiers, leave a donation, and help to ensure the next generation of musical talent has a place for development here in Sunderland.
